About Nicholas Gonzalez, MD
Nicholas James Gonzalez was America’s foremost integrative cancer pioneer. Dr. Gonzalez was born in Queens, New York on December 28, 1947 and died at his New York City home on July 21, 2015. His nutritional enzyme treatment, The Gonzalez Protocol®, has saved lives and promoted the healing of the human mind, body and spirit for more than 40 years.
The Nicholas Gonzalez Foundation honors Dr. Gonzalez as a truth-seeker, a scholar, an innovator and a dedicated and compassionate physician.

Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez graduated from Brown University in 1970 – Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, with a degree in English Literature.

He subsequently worked as a journalist at Time Inc. before pursuing premedical studies at Columbia.

He received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1983 and received their Teagle Scholar award.

During a postgraduate immunology fellowship under Dr. Robert A. Good, Dr. Gonzalez completed a research study evaluating Dr. William Donald Kelley’s aggressive nutritional therapy in the treatment of advanced cancer. Dr. Good is considered the father of modern immunology and was the President of Sloan-Kettering.
Dr. Gonzalez was in private practice in New York City since 1987. He treated patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious degenerative illnesses with The Gonzalez Protocol®. His nutritional research received substantial financial support from Procter & Gamble and Nestle. Results from a pilot study published in 1999 described the most positive data in the medical literature for pancreatic cancer.

Nicholas Gonzalez, MD’s Books:
The authorized biography of Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez: The Maverick M.D – One Doctor’s Fight for a New Cancer Treatment.
Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez wrote several books documenting his scientific theories and their history as well as his cancer research and patient case histories. His first book, The Trophoblast and the Origins of Cancer, discusses the work of Dr. John Beard, who first suggested 100 years ago that pancreatic enzymes have an anti-cancer effect. His second book, One Man Alone, presents the results of Dr. Gonzalez’s five-year investigation of the alternative cancer practitioner Dr. William Donald Kelley completed under the direction of Dr. Good. His third book, What Went Wrong: The Truth Behind the Clinical Trial of the Enzyme Treatment of Cancer documents Dr. Gonzalez’s battle to have The Gonzalez Protocol® properly tested in an NCI clinical study.
Dr. Gonzalez was writing a series of cancer case reports when he died. His wife, Mary Beth Gonzalez, posthumously published his 120 cases: Conquering Cancer Volume One and Volume Two. Then she found another book in his computer – Nutrition and the Autonomic Nervous System and published it in 2017. And finally, in the book Proof of Concept, she published his original 25 Cancer Best Case presentation to the NCI in 1993. All of Dr. Gonzalez’s books and lectures are available at New Spring Press.
